Orica wins awards supporting STELR in Indonesia

We are very happy and proud to report that Orica‘s Bontang facility was awarded three trophies at the 2018 Indonesian Sustainable Development Goals Award Ceremony at an event in Jakarta in September.

While Orica has sponsored STELR into Australian schools since 2008, Orica Bontang came on board in 2015.

The awards recognise their commitment to corporate social responsibility through its involvement with the STELR program by sponsoring the STELR Renewable Energy Equipment into nine schools in the area and supporting teachers from those schools to undertake professional learning sessions.

For the past four years, Orica Bontang has organised transport for the teachers who travel from Bontang on the island of Borneo to week-long STELR-STEM workshops hosted by the South East Asia Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) in Bandung on the island of Java. They also provide support staff to accompany the teachers and to help with translations.

The prestigious awards were given by the Corporate Forum for Community Development (CFCD) supported by the Coordinating Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS). The three awards presented to Orica Bontang were:

  • Gold Award for a Quality Education Program for the Renewable Energy STEM-STELR Program
  • Best Award Category Individual Managers Level
  • Best Award Category Individual Field Level

The Individual Manager’s Award was presented to Rheza Zacharias, Bontang Office Government, Community Relations & General Affairs Department. Rheza is a great supporter of STELR.

The STELR team congratulates Rheza and all the staff at Orica Bontang for this prestigious award and thanks them for their continued commitment to the STELR program.
