Big batteries for Victoria and the Northern Territory

Elon Musk’s battery installation in South Australia reacted within milliseconds when the Loy Yang coal-fired power station went off-line unexpectedly in December. The Tesla battery was able to deliver 100mW almost immediately, so that there was no disruption to the power supply.

The Victorian Government has recently signed an agreement for 20 megawatt battery to accompany a proposed 204 megawatt wind farm near Stawell in western Victoria. The Bulgana Green Power Hub, comprising the wind farm and battery, will support the extension of a 40-hectare Nectar Farms glasshouse nearby, making it the first ever crop farm to be completely powered by renewable energy.

The Northern Territory has also recently released an expression of interest for a 25 – 45 megawatt battery system for Darwin and Katherine.
