STELR and Antarctic Science

The Mawson’s Huts Foundation has been using STELR Renewable Energy equipment as part of its Mobile Antarctic Classroom program across NSW. The Antarctic Environmental Science and Sustainability bus has been travelling around Australia helping students and teachers foster an interest in and understanding of environmental science. They present programs for both primary and secondary students as well as teachers.

One of the presenters, David Dieckfoss, who is a qualified Antarctic Science Educator, said:

‘The students and teachers loved the STELR equipment …. I find it great for teaching students and teachers about renewable energy! I do a “Wow” presentation at the start on Magnetism which leads into electricity generation using wind and water…This also links into Electromagnetism – light used to generate electricity in Solar panels.’

You can see a video of the program showing the STELR equipment on action at the Mawson’s Huts Foundation website, where you can also download Antarctic worksheets for your class.

At the moment the foundation only has one bus, so they are limiting their tours to regions within NSW. You can also inquire about having the bus visit your school on the website.
